Contemporary/Modern Dance Class with Patricia Noworol

Class begins with floor work to warm-up and strengthen body’s secondary muscles. The class segues with a blend of ballet and modern dance exercises that focus on natural, physical placement, efficient breath, musicality, energy, weight, connectivity, and suspension. Progressing to full-body phrase work, students work within a broad range of actions to explore the power of harmony, dynamic motion, minimal gesture, theatricality, and even anatomically dysfunctional movements. Students are encouraged to develop individual styles informed by the specificity of their bodies as they make conscious choices about how they execute movement introduced by Patricia as well as their own intuition. The effort to remain present with their choices ultimately enables them to use the skill set from Patricia’s class as a platform for performance.

Patricia’s studies in Ballet, Modern/Contemporary Dance Techniques, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Yoga, and Alexander Technique assisted her in the development of this class.

Composition & Choreographic Process Class with Patricia Noworol

In this class, Patricia works with students on separating their movement from ideas. With Patricia as guide, ingrained habits as well as inherent patterns of thinking and moving are discussed, challenged, and exploited. In this class, Patricia and her students discuss their ideas about the basic principles of choreography (i.e.: space, time, and energy) and then create space together for improvisational exercises that delve into each individual’s imagination. Through guidance, feedback, and self-reflection, students tap into their self-knowledge and learn to communicate what they know — in order to discover their own unique choreographic voices. (Note: Students are welcome to join this class with a choreographic idea for solo or group work.)

Patricia commands a vast range of experiences in various styles of dance-making, and her works have been presented worldwide. The award-winning choreography of her New York-based company, PNDT, specializes in contemporary dance, Dance Theater and Physical Theater.
